A proclamation from Kaito Kid announces his intent to seize a prized Japanese sword owned by the affluent Onoe household in Hakodate, Hokkaido. Conan Edogawa and Heiji Hattori, present in Hakodate by chance, take on the mission of preventing Kid’s theft. The Onoe collection has links to Toshizo Hijikata, a historical figure who died in Hakodate, raising questions about Kid’s unexpected focus on a blade rather than gemstones. Soon after, the Onoe family’s lawyer is discovered murdered in the warehouse district, apparently killed with a Japanese sword. Suspicion falls on an investor and arms dealer rumored to be seeking the Onoe family’s concealed treasure. Background revelations indicate the Onoe patriarch’s grandfather was heavily involved in wartime arms production and allegedly hid a potent weapon in Hakodate capable of altering the outcome of conflict.
