In the afterlife, most people go to traditional destinations, but a rare few arrive at Quindecim, a secluded bar that admits only pairs who died at the same moment. The bar is managed by Decim, a reserved arbiter who evaluates patrons through perilous contests. Each match—ranging from casual pastimes to intense battles—reveals aspects of the competitors’ characters while the outcomes determine whether a soul will be reborn or consigned to permanent nonexistence. Decim’s procedure and detached demeanor are challenged when a black-haired person with no memories appears, prompting him to question his judgments and the processes he has always followed.
