Synopsis

An eleven-year-old orphan who has been passed between households arrives at Green Gables, a modest farmhouse in Avonlea, to live with the elderly brother-and-sister team, Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. The Cuthberts had expected a boy to help with chores and are surprised to find a spirited girl with a vivid imagination and a penchant for dramatic flair instead. Though they initially hesitate, her lively nature, cleverness, and warmth gradually win their affection. As she makes a home there, she encounters many firsts—joining school, forming close friendships, and confronting the everyday joys and uncertainties of childhood—while searching for a place where she truly belongs.
