Synopsis

Haruyuki Arita, a middle school student who is socially targeted and seeking refuge in online play, notices his top scores have been surpassed by Kuroyukihime, the well-liked student council vice president. She brings him into the student lounge and reveals Brain Burst, a program that lets users speed their neural activity until external time appears suspended. Brain Burst also manifests as an augmented-reality combat system where advancement depends on winning duels against other participants; losing all points means permanent loss of access. Kuroyukihime discloses she enlisted Haruyuki because she needs assistance pursuing the program’s origin and purpose. To reach the creator she must overcome the Six Kings of Pure Color, dominant in-game leaders, and attain level 10, the maximum rank. After Kuroyukihime helps Haruyuki confront his tormentors, he commits to aiding her, and together they begin their campaign to climb the game’s hierarchy and uncover why Brain Burst exists.
