Synopsis

In an alternate-era Japan undergoing Westernization, Second Lieutenant Kei Agemaki—son of a renowned general—conceals a deep terror of supernatural beings. Reassigned along with two colleagues to the Ministry of Spirit Affairs, he is compelled to face the very phenomenon he fears: youkai. Tasked with living and collaborating alongside spirit maidens, Kei must cooperate with the fox spirit Kushimatsu and four youkai women—Zakuro, Susukihotaru, Hoozuki, and Bonbori—to investigate and resolve paranormal incidents. The series examines tensions and connections that arise when cultural and social boundaries shift: east and west, native and foreign, and differing roles of women and men. Through the practical demands of partnership and the emotional challenge of confronting personal fear, human officers and youkai must form an unconventional alliance to operate in a transforming world.
