Synopsis

Thirty-three years after the JAM arrived through a hyperspace breach above Antarctica to invade Earth, humanity pushed the invaders back and relocated the conflict to the JAM homeworld, Fairy. The United Nations maintains five bases there and fields a highly capable military force, including the Fairy Air Force. Lieutenant Rei Fukai serves in the FAF Special Air Force’s Boomerang reconnaissance unit, flying a Super Sylph fighter christened Yukikaze. From high altitude he monitors air engagements to obtain and interpret critical information about JAM tactics. Fukai is skilled but socially withdrawn, relying heavily on his fighter’s advanced armaments and its near-sentient onboard AI. Though mistrusted by many colleagues, he performs his missions until a violent encounter introduces a hostile, unresponsive aircraft identical to his own, forcing an unexpected confrontation.
