Mitsuha Miyamizu, a high school student from a rural town, longs for the experience of living as a young man in Tokyo, a contrast to her quiet countryside existence. In the city, Taki Tachibana balances school, a part-time job, and ambitions in architecture. Suddenly, they begin to wake up in one another’s bodies: Mitsuha finds herself in Tokyo living as Taki, while Taki navigates Mitsuha’s life in her provincial community. As they pursue an explanation and attempt to find each other, their interchangeable actions start to reshape both of their daily realities and future prospects. The story follows how their unexpected connection, driven by chance and circumstance, binds their lives together without revealing underlying mysteries or outcomes.
