Synopsis

Set in 1960s Japan, a talented but withdrawn medical student seeks recognition while carrying a troubled history and distinctive black-and-white hair. Despite still being in training, his exceptional surgical skill draws notice after he succeeds in a daunting procedure. Alongside the earnest intern Maiko Okamoto and his long-time friend Yabu, who wrestles with his own difficulties, he commits himself to medical practice. Their efforts unfold as the nation is unsettled by campus unrest, war, and institutional corruption, creating a hostile environment that repeatedly tests his moral resolve and professional ambitions. The narrative follows this young doctor's extraordinary medical abilities and the trials that shape his progression toward the figure known as Black Jack.
