Synopsis

Yawara Inokuma is a high school student who desires a simple, conventional future: refined manners and a steady romantic relationship. Despite this, she possesses an impressive, unwanted aptitude for judo—a discipline she feels conflicts with her feminine aspirations. As the sole granddaughter of seventh-dan judo master Jigorou Inokuma, she faces familial pressure to become a leading Japanese judoka in the coming decade. To protect her ordinary image, Yawara deliberately keeps her abilities hidden, but circumstances repeatedly force her to use her skills. Meanwhile, Kousaku Matsuda, a sports journalist at a less reputable newspaper, notices her potential and quietly seeks ways to bring her into public attention.
