Synopsis

After stopping for late-night drinks, Yan Yuechu and his coworker Hu Zhi take shelter from a storm in the building that houses Xu Aiyou’s notorious escape attraction, XY. Despite the game’s dark reputation and its enigmatic proprietor, they opt to participate. Given sixty minutes to decipher clues and navigate a series of unsettling rooms, the pair complete the challenge within the allotted time. Fragments suggesting Xu Aiyou’s troubled history, embedded throughout the game, make a powerful emotional impact on both men—so strong that future escape scenarios begin seeping into their sleep as vivid dreams. The next day Yan Yuechu receives a warning letter urging him to avoid escape games. His attempts to get clear answers from Xu Aiyou prove inconclusive, and he is soon confronted by another dream in which he must solve a puzzle to flee his own bedroom. As the line between waking life and hallucination grows increasingly uncertain, Yan Yuechu must investigate the reality of XY and its creator if he hopes to maintain his grip on sanity.
