Synopsis

Shuuichi Nitori, an effeminate fifth grader often mistaken for a girl though biologically male, and his longtime friend Yoshino Takatsuki, a tall tomboy assigned female who does not identify as a girl, share a private understanding about gender unease. As they move to a different school, they confront the challenge of forming new friendships while trying to preserve existing bonds. The series follows their emotional journey through adolescence as they face the realities of growing up, confront feelings of gender dysphoria, navigate early romantic experiences, and seek acceptance from those around them. Presented with a thoughtful, earnest approach to gender identity and LGBT themes, the story traces Shuuichi and Yoshino’s attempts to shape their identities and make difficult choices amid the pressures of puberty and social life.
