Synopsis

At Walpurgis Royal Academy, the study of Machinart—magic that animates and empowers mechanical dolls called automatons—aims to produce elite puppeteers as nations integrate these constructs into warfare. After failing the academy's admission tests, Raishin Akabane and his humanoid automaton Yaya must defeat a top-ranked student to earn entry into the Evening Party, a high-stakes competition where puppeteers contest for dominance. The victor earns the designation of Wiseman and access to forbidden, potent techniques. Raishin issues a challenge to Charlotte Belew and her automaton Sigmund, but when Sigmund is set upon by other students, Raishin intervenes to protect them and withdraws the duel. Confronted with setbacks and motivated by painful events from his past, Raishin and Yaya continue to confront rivals and obstacles as they strive to reach the Evening Party and pursue the Wiseman title.
