Synopsis

In the town of Engamori, spirits, deities, and people share everyday existence, each seeking calm and normalcy. Near the end of his natural lifespan, Buchio—a twenty-year-old cat—undergoes an unexplained change into a nekomata, a feline supernatural being. This newfound form lets him remain with his human household longer, yet it also prompts him to wonder about the cause of his transformation and the unusual powers that have recently appeared. At the same time, elementary schooler Mutsumi “Muu-chan” Sugimoto grows closer to Jirou, a tengu with crow-like traits, who begins to occupy the emotional space left by her deceased father. Initially unable to clearly express their feelings, Muu-chan and Jirou slowly build a mutual bond and come to look out for one another in their quiet, shared world.
