Synopsis

Nanami Simpson, a young girl who lost her mother early, moves aboard a marine research vessel with her father, Scott Simpson, a marine biologist pursuing reports of a luminous whale. Discovering skeletal remains of one of these creatures prompts him to shift his work toward protecting and caring for them. Nanami forms a close bond with a visiting orca she calls Tico and swims with the animal daily. Over time she develops the ability to breathe underwater, surprising her father. In a dangerous incident at sea she nearly drowns, but a glowing whale intervenes, saving her and returning her to the ship, where her father finally witnesses the creature himself.
