Synopsis

This animated music video, crafted by director and animator Rabbit MACHINE, accompanies Yorushika's song 'Thoughtcrime'. The central concept of 'thoughtcrime' is inspired by George Orwell's novel '1984'. The video delves into the nuanced relationship between artistic homage and plagiarism, suggesting that the line separating these two creative acts is inherently indistinct. It proposes that an acknowledged instance of plagiarism can evolve into an homage, and conversely, an homage always carries the potential to be interpreted as plagiarism. The song's lyrics specifically pay tribute to the haiku and the final years of poet Ozaki Housai.
