Synopsis

Kaoru Touno returns home to a fractured household after a sibling's death and his parents' divorce, and he no longer finds solace there. After a heated argument with his father, he bolts from the house and is drawn into a strange tunnel that disorients him. Inside he encounters unsettling sights and, as he leaves, notices a bird identical to his deceased pet. Though only minutes seemed to have passed for him, a full week has elapsed outside. The incident brings to mind local lore about the "Urashima Tunnel," a place said to grant wishes in exchange for a portion of one’s remaining life. The bird’s reappearance leads Kaoru to consider whether returning to the tunnel might repair the damage in his life. When he revisits the tunnel’s mouth, he finds he has not come alone: Anzu Hanashiro, a newly transferred classmate, has followed him. She is familiar with the same rumor and requests Kaoru’s cooperation in an experiment—she, too, harbors a wish she believes only the tunnel can fulfill.
