Synopsis
Adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's tale, this story follows childhood friends Gerda and Kai, ages eleven and twelve, whose lives are altered after a magical mirror shatters and scatters malignant fragments across the world. When a splinter lodges in Kai's eye, he becomes emotionally distant. One night the Snow Queen arrives and carries Kai away in her carriage to an ice palace at the world's northernmost edge. Villagers assume Kai drowned beneath the frozen lake, but Gerda, haunted by a vision of him entering the carriage, refuses to accept that account. Bolstered by a stranger's corroboration, she prepares and departs on a quest to find Kai and bring him home, confronting the cold enchantment that separated them.
