Synopsis

In 1532, twelve-year-old Esteban, a foundling raised in Barcelona, discovers he can summon sunlight and is known as the "Child of the Sun." After his adoptive father's death, Esteban learns he was rescued from a sinking vessel as an infant and that the medallion he has always worn bears a mark linked to the New World, possibly tied to the fabled Cities of Gold. Determined to learn his origins, he departs Spain and encounters Zia, an Inca girl taken from her homeland years earlier who possesses an identical medallion. They are later joined by Tao, a lone youth from the Galapagos and the last scion of the Heva Empire, an ancient civilization credited with constructing the Cities of Gold. United by the luminous symbol on their medallions, the three children traverse unexplored territories of the Americas, following the guiding star Coyolite as they seek the legendary Cities of Gold and hope to find their lost families.
