Synopsis

Rudger originates as the imagined companion created by Amanda’s bright imagination, visible and audible only to her. They explore the attic above Amanda’s mother’s bookshop and share a promise of three rules: remain present, keep each other safe, and never shed tears. Their bond is threatened when a man called Mr. Bunting appears with a strange girl only Amanda and Rudger perceive. Bunting hunts down imaginary companions to take them from children. During a thwarted attempt to seize Rudger, Amanda is killed in a car crash. Suddenly left without his creator, Rudger must evade Bunting’s continued pursuit while confronting a deeper danger: if an imaginary friend is forgotten, they vanish entirely.
