Synopsis

In 19th-century London, advances enable the dead to be revived as automatons for work, though these reanimated bodies lack the inner life that dies with a person. Rumors persist that Doctor Victor Frankenstein, who disappeared after pioneering corpse revival, succeeded in bringing back a single body that retained its soul. Driven by a promise to his departed partner Friday, medical student John Watson pursues Frankenstein’s lost research, believing the notes reveal how a soul might persist after death. Recruited by a government bureau, Watson’s investigation into the legendary document exposes the troubling realities of the era’s corpse industry and forces him to confront what sacrifices are demanded in the quest for this forbidden knowledge.
