Synopsis

Tokiyuki Hōjō, an eight-year-old noble raised in the calm of Kamakura, prefers avoiding duty to training as his family’s future shogun. Rather than mastering sword or bow, he becomes expert at slipping past guardians and finding concealed refuges. That quiet routine is shattered when a sudden coup annihilates his clan, leaving Tokiyuki the lone survivor and overwhelmed by thoughts of joining his family in death. Before he can act on despair, the mysterious priest Yorishige Suwa propels him onto a battlefield, declaring that Tokiyuki is destined for greatness and forcing the boy to evade enemy soldiers to survive. Confronted by real danger, Tokiyuki rediscovers the thrill of hiding as he adapts his avoidance skills to life-or-death escape. Bolstered by Yorishige’s prophecy and the prospect of powerful allies, Tokiyuki resolves to seek retribution for his family—not by becoming a warrior, but by turning his exceptional ability to flee into a means of pursuing vengeance.
