Synopsis

After discovering the circumstances of their father’s premature death, the four Shimogamo brothers settle into a quieter life, each honoring their father’s legacy in distinct ways. Yaichirou, the eldest, seeks to follow in his footsteps by pursuing the title of Trick Magister and revitalizing the popular shogi competition. Yajirou works toward regaining his past shapeshifting talents, and young Yashirou keeps running the family factory. The third brother, Yasaburou, embraces the carefree, unpredictable nature he inherited, spending his days chasing a rare tsuchinoko and stirring up mischief wherever he goes. Their uneasy equilibrium is threatened when Nidaime, the estranged son of their tengu mentor Professor Akadama, returns bearing resentment toward his father and toward Benten, Akadama’s former apprentice. Yasaburou’s loyalties and quick thinking are tested as he attempts to defuse conflicts among humans, tengu, and tanuki and prevent the fragile balance between the groups from collapsing.
