Synopsis

A war between neighboring states is shaped by an ancient pact: massive dragons bound to defend one country. These creatures can devastate entire battlefields, yet their power is compromised by a mundane vulnerability—dental decay. A specialized corps, known as the dragon dentists, is charged with maintaining the dragons' teeth to keep the guardians operational. Members of this unit accept a grim requirement: recruits must witness the circumstances of their own deaths and embrace that inevitable outcome, allowing them to work with calm dedication despite knowing their fate. Nonoko Kishii survived a recent selection and carries the weight of that acceptance as she tends the dragons. When Bernard “Bel” Octavius appears—an enemy officer killed by his comrades and resurrected by the dragons’ teeth—he becomes Nonoko’s trainee despite being considered a harbinger of calamity. His arrival challenges the unit’s understanding of death and duty as they continue their precise, painful work to preserve the very forces that define their nation’s survival.
