Synopsis

Akino begins work as a sales clerk at an opulent, sprawling department store where refusing a customer is not an option. The clientele are animals, including rare and extinct species such as sea minks, laughing owls, Japanese wolves, and a giant mammoth sculptor named Mr. Woolly whose pieces are displayed in the shop. Though the setting is luxurious, Akino struggles with the variety and difficulty of patrons' needs, from locating obscure items to handling delicate emotional situations. To retain her position she must satisfy these exacting demands while being closely watched by a meticulous floor manager, a sinister consultant intent on reducing staff numbers, and an inscrutable company president (who, contrary to rumor, is not a penguin).
