Synopsis

In the year 2242, humanity clings to survival inside scattered, bubble-like settlements amid a devastated world. Toxic rain and dangerous creatures called Enders make the outside lethal, so communities depend on a newly discovered energy source derived from AO crystals. Retrieval of these crystals falls to drifters, who operate adaptable bipedal tanks and are assisted in combat by androids known as magus. Aspiring drifter Kanata, exploring distant ruins with his exceptionally talented friend Tokio, finds a magus named Noir preserved in stasis. Noir awakens but cannot recall her past and initially offers little help for Kanata’s work. When Enders strike, Kanata realizes Noir possesses extraordinary fighting capability. Together they set out to investigate Noir’s lost history and to locate Histoire, the fabled city tied to the mysteries of their world and to Kanata’s long-held aspiration to visit it.
