Synopsis

As children, Jinta and Suzune fled their home and were sheltered by Motoharu, Kadono Village’s loyal guardian, and his daughter Shirayuki. The village was overseen by Itsukihime, a shrine maiden with limited contact; upon her death, Shirayuki assumed the role. To remain close to her, Jinta devoted years to service and was eventually chosen as the village’s next protector. Charged with defending the community, Jinta confronts threats whenever they arise. During a clash in a nearby forest, he battles a demon that, before the fight ends, proclaims a prophecy about the rightful ruler of demons and fastens its severed arm to Jinta, rendering him an unaging demon-like man. When he regains consciousness, Kadono lies in flames: Suzune has become the demon named in the prophecy, and amid misunderstandings she kills Shirayuki and escapes. Unable to reconcile Suzune’s deed, Jinta sets out to pursue her. Traveling through Japan across different eras, he strives to shield people from hostile demons while wrestling privately with how he will confront the friend from his past.
