Synopsis

On her way to school, Suzume Iwato meets Souta Munakata, a young man who searches for deserted sites. She points him toward a local ruin and, driven by curiosity, follows him there. At the ruin Suzume encounters an isolated door that reveals a strange, perceptible world she cannot enter. Nearby lies a peculiar stone that transforms into a catlike being and flees when she touches it. Frightened, Suzume leaves and unknowingly leaves the door unsealed. That action frees a malignant force from the other realm, allowing it to begin causing harm across Japan. To undo the consequences of her departure, Suzume joins Souta—whose mission is to stop such corruption—in a quest to locate and close all the open doors before the nation is overwhelmed.
