Synopsis

In Highland, fairies once roamed freely until human treachery reduced them to a vulnerable state: removing a wing grants control over a fairy's life. This power has led to the widespread enslavement of fairies by humans. Fifteen-year-old Ann Halford, who aspires to follow her late mother's path as a Silver Sugar Master, harbors a hope for a future in which humans and fairies are regarded as equals. To earn the prestigious title, Ann must have a confection made from silver sugar receive a royal medal at the Royal Candy Fair in the capital, Lewiston. Leaving for the capital, she hires a blunt, battle-hardened fairy named Shall Fen Shall as a bodyguard after freeing him from a cruel fairy trader. Ann vows to restore Shall’s missing wing once they reach Lewiston, a promise that puzzles him. As their journey progresses, the two spend increasing time together, discovering more about one another and confronting their personal aims and longings while navigating the risks posed by a society built on the control of fairies.
