Synopsis

The 73rd cadet cohort from the Defense University of the small world Kibi embarks on a commissioning voyage aboard their navy's latest ship, the Amaterasu, as graduation nears. En route home they learn the hostile Kingdom has declared war against Kibi. When the planetary leadership yields without contest, the cadets choose to continue the fight themselves, operating from the Amaterasu. To secure the resources needed for their independent campaign, they accept an arrangement with an interstellar news outlet, which turns their missions into a broadcasted spectacle. Their efforts to fund and publicize their cause place them at the center of a televised program—one that exposes them to severe danger and raises the stakes of every engagement.
