After the Kitauji High School concert band's auditions for selection in the Kyoto Prefectural Concert Band competition, ten students do not make the cut. Unable to perform alongside the main wind ensemble, they band together and call themselves Team Monaka. Rather than withdraw, they commit to aiding their peers in every feasible way until the competition day. From hauling supplies to crafting monaka-shaped tokens of encouragement, Team Monaka's quiet, steadfast contributions become central to a memorable and bittersweet summer as the concert band advances toward nationals. Their experience emphasizes solidarity, behind-the-scenes dedication, and the emotional resonance of supporting a shared goal despite personal disappointment.
