Synopsis

In Edo-period Japan, Ushiwaka, a young nobleman, wanders regions where hostile yokai threaten people. During one assault by a group of wild yokai, he is rescued by Shaga, a yokai woman who seeks to ascend to godhood. The two form an alliance and journey together, confronting aggressive spirits and working to ease tensions so humans and yokai might live alongside one another. Their efforts to build peaceful relations face persistent obstacles and reveal how difficult harmony can be.
