Synopsis

Shirotsugh Lhadatt, a cadet in the Kingdom of Honneamise's Royal Space Force, has never left the ground—no one in his country has. The RSF is widely viewed as ineffectual by the populace and sidelined by a government more intent on provoking conflict than advancing science. After attending a fellow cadet's funeral, an apathetic Shiro encounters Riquinni Nonderaiko, a devout and earnest young woman who holds a deep belief in the importance of reaching beyond the atmosphere. Her conviction gradually rekindles Shiro's purpose, leading him to volunteer as the prospective pilot for his nation’s inaugural rocket mission. An aging but dedicated collective of scientists and engineers rallies around the effort, working to turn the faltering program into a meaningful achievement. Their progress attracts the scrutiny of political authorities, whose objectives for the RSF diverge from the team's scientific aims. Despite institutional resistance and long odds, the individuals involved persist in pursuing spaceflight, driven by the sense that venturing outward may offer a path to redemption for themselves and their country.
