Synopsis

A collaborative anthology of nine independent animated shorts by prominent Japanese animators, united by the motif of robots. Each segment examines human relationships with artificial beings and the moral, emotional, or existential outcomes that follow from bringing life into existence by human hands. The collection opens and closes with pieces by Atsuko Fukushima and Katsuhiro Otomo, and includes individual works titled Franken’s Gears, Deprive, Presence, Star Light Angel, Cloud, A Tale of Two Robots, and Nightmare, crafted by Koji Morimoto, Hidetoshi Omori, Yasuomi Umetsu, Hiroyuki Kitazume, Mao Lamdo, Hiroyuki Kitakubo, and Takashi Nakamura respectively. Though each short stands alone in narrative and style, together they offer nine distinct interpretations of how people interact with robotic life and the consequences that arise from those encounters.
