Synopsis

Ryuu Jusetsu, known as the Raven Consort, lives apart from the emperor in a jet-black palace and is both feared and respected within the royal court. Rumors surround her: people attribute to her strange powers and enlist her for tasks ranging from recovering lost objects to enacting curses. Some speak of her as an ageless wise woman; others whisper that she is a chilling revenant. Unmoved by gossip, Jusetsu prefers solitude—until the young emperor Ka Koushun unexpectedly seeks her help with an enigmatic matter. His appeal forces her to leave her isolated quarters for the first time, and despite her irritation at his persistent visits she cannot refuse. Guided by the teachings of her predecessor that the Raven Consort must remain detached and desire nothing, Jusetsu nonetheless begins to form connections, first by appointing Jiujiu, a curious and innocent court girl, as her sole attendant. Together they take on requests from palace residents, but the outside world conceals threats, and exposing herself risks confronting a past that may be best left buried.
