Synopsis

Set in Japan in 1955, Mario Minakami and five other adolescents arrive at Shounan Special Reform School after being charged with serious crimes. Housed together, they encounter Rokurouta Sakuragi, an older former boxer, and develop a close relationship with him. Under Rokurouta’s guidance and encouraged by his promise that they will reunite once their terms end, the young inmates begin to regain a measure of hope amid bleak circumstances. The seven cellmates face relentless humiliation and cruelty from Ishihara, a guard who resents Rokurouta, and from Gisuke Sasaki, a doctor who abuses boys under his care. Confronted by these brutal conditions, the group must summon every reserve of courage and resilience to survive until the end of their sentences — and even if they do, they must confront an uncertain future beyond the institution.
