Synopsis

Gesicht, an android serving as a Europol detective, is assigned to investigate the killing of Montblanc, a retired war hero robot. Though the circumstances suggest a robot perpetrator, the slaying of a prominent robot rights advocate raises uncertainty about the culprit's nature. Apart from one unexplained episode eight years earlier, robots are designed not to be capable of killing humans, yet clues at the scene and similarities in method prompt Gesicht to consider that the same entity—whether human or machine—may be responsible. When another former elite war machine is soon found destroyed, Gesicht observes a link between the victims: both were members of a group regarded as the seven most powerful combat robots ever created. Aware that five remaining veterans could be targeted next, Gesicht enlists Atom, an advanced android with the appearance of a young boy, to assist in tracking the perpetrator. Together they pursue the rogue killer to prevent further deaths and the potential unraveling of social order.
