Synopsis

Makoto “Smile” Tsukimoto and Yutaka “Peco” Hoshino have grown up together despite contrasting temperaments. Peco brims with confidence and aims to become the world’s top table tennis player, yet his frequent avoidance of practice frustrates his Katase High teammates. Smile possesses natural aptitude but deliberately restrains his full capability when facing opponents. Their shared dedication to ping-pong forges a deep bond between them. When Peco learns an ex-national player from China will visit, he and Smile go to rival Tsujido High, where Peco meets Kong Wenge and suffers a decisive defeat that leaves him reexamining his reasons for competing. Recognizing Smile’s latent skill, the Katase coach pushes him to confront his reluctance to play beyond enjoyment. As both boys search for purpose in the sport, they encounter increasingly formidable rivals at the inter-high tournament, each driven by personal conflicts. The pursuit of victory exposes harsh realities when unchecked ambition and the pressures of competition test these young athletes’ resolve.
