Synopsis

In early 15th-century Poland, twelve-year-old Rafal follows a life guided by reason, intending to study theology to gain social approval while keeping emotions subdued. A chance meeting with an enigmatic stranger redirects his focus: he develops a deep, personal interest in astronomy and resolves to demonstrate the validity and elegance of a sun-centered cosmos. His advocacy for heliocentrism puts him at odds with the dominant religious authorities, who uphold an Earth-centered worldview and punish dissent with extreme brutality. Rafal's scientific quest centers on producing accurate calculations and empirical support for his model, but the greater obstacle is secrecy—he must advance his work without attracting the attention of those who would condemn him as a heretic.
