Synopsis

Shuuzou "Shuu" Matsutani’s quiet routine—friends, a crush, and kendo—shifts when, atop a smokestack at sunset, he meets Lala-Ru, a reserved blue-haired girl wearing an unusual pendant. His attempt to connect meets only indifferent replies, and then armed pursuers accompanied by serpentine machines materialize seeking Lala-Ru. When Shuu intervenes, he is swept into a barren desert realm. There he learns Lala-Ru’s pendant enables control over water, a vital rarity in this world, but the charm goes missing and Shuu becomes the main suspect. Faced with imprisonment, hunger, and the brutalities of conflict, Shuu must endure severe suffering and fight through a dystopian landscape to protect the solitary girl he found on the smokestack.
