Raku Ichijou, a first-year student at Bonyari High, is the lone successor of a formidable yakuza family. A decade earlier he swore a promise to a childhood companion and was left with a pendant secured by a lock that fits only the key she took when they parted. Now an ordinary-seeming teenager, Raku aims to distance himself from his criminal lineage and hopes to spend his school life near his middle school crush, Kosaki Onodera. That plan unravels when the American Bee Hive Gang intrudes on his family’s territory. To avert escalating conflict, Raku must pose as the romantic partner of Chitoge Kirisaki, the Bee Hive chief’s attractive daughter. The arrangement forces two opposites together: Chitoge views Raku as weak and contemptible, while Raku finds her abrasive and off-putting. Nisekoi depicts their uneasy daily interactions as they maintain a fake relationship to preserve peace.
