Synopsis

On summer break, middle schooler Nagasumi Michishio visits the Seto Inland Sea and nearly drowns after a sudden cramp while swimming at Mio Sun Beach. He is rescued at the brink of death by a mermaid. That night the mermaid, Sun Seto, appears at his home and reveals she belongs to a yakuza-affiliated mermaid family. Mermaid statutes dictate that a mermaid exposed to a human must be executed, so Sun’s family offers an alternative: Nagasumi must become Sun’s husband or face death at the hands of Gouzaburou, Sun’s father and the Seto clan’s boss. With no viable choice, Nagasumi accepts and the two are married. The couple then strive to conceal their union while coping with Gouzaburou’s repeated assassination attempts and a parade of unusual adversaries. Amid the danger and bizarre incidents, an earnest, innocent affection develops between them as they adjust to life together.
