Synopsis

A damaged spaceship crashes onto a failing world, releasing a surge of life energy generated by the enigmatic beings aboard that revitalizes the planet. Popo lives quietly with his mother in a secluded forest teeming with insects. He longs to grow stronger so he can locate his father, who departed years earlier and was known as the Guardian of the Forest for his dedication to studying the land. During a walk, Popo witnesses a creeping, unsettling mist and the arrival of Passer, who accuses his father of being the forest’s enemy. Returning home, Popo finds his mother transformed into a hybrid of plant and human. Convinced only his father can restore her and save the forest, Popo sets out to find him. The villainous Adder and his followers use giant beetles to thwart Popo’s efforts, but Mushiking, the King of Beetles, intervenes repeatedly with overwhelming power and combat skill to protect Popo and keep his quest moving forward. Guided and guarded by Mushiking, Popo embarks on a journey to reunite with his father, confront the threat to the forest, and assume the role destined for him as the next Guardian of the Forest.
