Synopsis

Doumu Shinjou, a ten-year-old whose father was a celebrated Yomiuri Giants player, inherits both a deep affection for baseball and an extraordinary pitching ability. Despite his mother and older sister urging him to abandon the sport, Doumu carries on, having been taught one final, remarkable pitch by his father before he died. When his mother gives him his father’s glove, Doumu performs that special pitch during a Giants practice and is immediately signed to the team. Supported by veteran teammates, he helps make the Giants dominant at their home stadium—the Tokyo Dome—where opposing clubs’ top hitters cannot counter his unique throw. Restrictions limit him to home appearances, however, so the team’s road performance remains a separate challenge. Along his path, Doumu encounters new adversaries and teammates, including Melody Norman, an American who conceals her identity as a girl to play in a male league. The Giants’ pursuit of the league title advances until the emergence of Don Carlos, a Spanish former bullfighter now playing for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, who appears to share a past with Doumu’s father. The story follows Doumu’s efforts to lead the Giants to the championship while confronting rivalry, friendship, and the legacy of his father.
