Local lore claims anyone who encounters another person on a certain bridge is fated to cross paths again. Momo meets a boy who dismisses that belief; she vows to prove the legend true by finding him once more. Over the following year she returns to the bridge each day, her vigil weaving her into the routines and stories of numerous townspeople while she holds to her promise.
