Synopsis

Genji Hikaru is the adored second son of the Emperor, born to a well-liked but low-status concubine. Gifted the title “Shining Prince,” he grows up enveloped by comfort, affection, and the trappings of courtly life. Though his standing grants him many advantages, it does not permit succession to the throne. Amidst constant attention and the privileges afforded by his birth, Genji harbors a deep personal longing for a form of love that cannot be secured by rank, wealth, or imperial influence. The narrative follows his internal struggle between public adoration and a private yearning that remains beyond the reach of power.
