Synopsis
Akito never sought combat; he prefers cooking over piloting despite growing up on a mecha TV series. After his Mars home is destroyed, he is unexpectedly transported to Earth and struggles with unanswered questions. A chance encounter with Yurika, captain of the private battleship Nadesico, leads him to follow her by signing on as the ship's cook. Hidden within him are nanite implants that enable control of mechas, making him an occasional backup pilot for Nadesico’s fleet. The crew appears to be a ragtag mix of misfits, fans, and scatterbrains but are actually selected specialists. Together they embark on a private campaign back to Mars, confronting the sobering truth that reality may diverge from the idealized narratives of giant robot shows.
