Synopsis

In a Japan marked by a decline in terrorist incidents due to a covert syndicate, orphaned girls are raised and trained to execute targeted killings under a program known as Lycoris. Takina Inoue is a meticulous and determined operative within this system, whose strict adherence to protocol is tested during a hostage incident. Her act of defiance results in reassignment away from the only community she has known, sending her to a new cover location—a cafe called LycoReco. There she meets her new teammate, Chisato Nishikigi: a renowned Lycoris whose relaxed demeanor and apparent indifference to standard procedure conflict with Takina's expectations. Chisato involves Takina in a series of unconventional missions framed as aid to others, and demonstrates an ability to neutralize armed threats without resorting to killing. As Takina struggles with displacement and hopes for reinstatement, Chisato seeks to show an alternative approach to life beyond the singular purpose of assassination, prompting Takina to confront her beliefs and priorities.
