Synopsis

Yuuichi Ezaki is confined to a hospital following hepatitis A, isolated from friends and family and resentful of his situation. To escape boredom he repeatedly sneaks out, typically earning reprimands and rough treatment from the attending nurse. During his stays he encounters Rika Akiba, a girl his age also hospitalized; he is struck at once by her appearance. Rika’s temperament, however, contrasts with her looks—she behaves selfishly, is often moody, and can be bossy. Despite these flaws, the two spend increasing amounts of time together, gradually forming a closer bond. They experience the simple pleasures and frustrations of an emerging adolescent relationship, even as Rika’s health threatens to cut their time short, casting a shadow of impending loss over their growing connection.
