Synopsis

Kaiji Itou, crushed by mounting obligations, falls back into his former habits. While out one day he encounters Yuuji Endou, who has been sent by creditors to retrieve the money Kaiji owes the Teiai Group. Hoping to find a new chance at gambling, Kaiji follows Endou, only to discover the true purpose of the meeting when he is abducted. Unable to settle his massive debt, Kaiji is consigned to an underground labor camp run by the Teiai Group, where he is told he must endure fifteen years of forced work alongside other indebted prisoners before earning freedom. The only way to shorten this sentence is to save enough within the camp to buy a single day on the surface. Kaiji intends to use that day to place a decisive, high-stakes bet to clear his account, but the meager earnings from camp life and the persistent temptations surrounding him may force him into desperate gambles sooner than planned.
