Synopsis

In a society where personal memories are stored on removable chips separate from the body, physical death no longer equates to the end of consciousness. These chips can be inspected, modified, and moved between bodies. Wealthy individuals use them to extend life by selecting desirable bodies, while impoverished people often sell their bodies and preserve their consciousness on chips as a means of survival. An electrolytic cloud in the sky creates a rigid divide between the privileged realms above and the impoverished zones below, reinforcing a stark social separation. Kaiba wakes in an unfamiliar room with no recollection, a mysterious cavity in his chest, and a locket containing a photograph of a woman he does not recognize. After surviving an assault and finding refuge in a decayed village inhabited by underworld residents, he sets out across multiple planets in this peculiar universe. His quest aims to uncover who he is and to learn about the woman linked to the locket. As Kaiba travels, he confronts questions of identity, memory, and belonging. The narrative follows his introspective journey as he pieces together fragments of past lives, encounters the varied consequences of memory commodification, and gradually comes to terms with what it means to carry a soul when memories can be separated from the body.
